Reusing untreated drainage water can contaminate the irrigation system and cause disease to other crops.
Many greenhouses use a closed cultivation system to reduce soil and groundwater contamination (from fertilisers and crop protection agents).
This system allows the reuse of water that is drained and not absorbed by the roots. However, to do so, you need to install a drain water disinfection system that allows you to purify water and reduce the risk of disease transmission.
Water disinfection methods
At Novagric you can find different treatments for water disinfection:
Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection
It uses ultraviolet radiation (UV-C) to disinfect the water.
It is very effective and allows you to:
Its use is recommended for the reuse of drainage water and drinking water purification for human consumption.

Advantages of UV disinfection
Water disinfection with chlorine
Chlorination of water for disinfection is one of the most widely used methods because it is simple and economical.
It consists of disinfecting water with chlorine for clean water use. With a chlorimetric monitoring system, you can easily determine the presence of free chlorine in the water.
Sand Filtration Equipment
Before disinfecting the water with UV you need to filter out the suspended solids to avoid shadows in the reactor. This ensures that all organic matter is removed.
For this purpose a filter medium with silica sand and anthracite (inside polyamide tanks) is used. With a filtration degree of 30 microns and an autonomous pressurised backwashing system, timed control or differential pressure.
With sand filtration equipment and UV disinfection you get safe water reuse.
